On the 16th of June, 2018, Set In China gathered together with past and new candidates in Shanghai who gave a few hours of their time during the Dragon Boat Festival to talk to us and give us some insight into their experience once arriving in China and their opinions.
Hear from candidates and people just like you.
Jing'an is not only home to the Set In China HQ, but also a popular and busy district filled with businesses and tourist attractions all over. This is where we decided to host our previous candidates. With positions all over Shanghai, they slowly trickled in after a days' work to talk to us.
Our first arrivals were Denzel and Kirstie; a couple from the USA teaching together in Shanghai. We sat down with both of them to discuss what they liked about their posts and any regrets they may have. When asked to describe where they live and work in 3 words they used: exciting, different, a challenge & exciting, fast-paced and super-fun.
After living in China for several months, they both came to agree that the one thing they could not live without - and would wish to take back with them to China would be the Metro. The underground system here in many cities in China is very developed and modern and makes the daily commutes of many Chinese people are smooth and as easy as possible.
It wasn't only them that had great thing to say about their experience in China. Angela, a teacher from South Africa, and one of Set In China's candidates, has been in China for over 5 years. Her input was very insightful as she described her experience in great detail - highlighting what her experience as a teacher has taught her. She describes it as learning to be 'responsible' and 'patient'.
Keep an eye out for a more in-depth video coming out soon that will detail these candidates experiences and their personal thoughts on their journey with Set In China.
