Guiyang is the capital of Guizhou province of Southwest China. It is located in the center of the province, situated on the east of the Yunnan–Guizhou Plateau, and on the north bank of the Nanming River, a branch of the Wu River. Guizhou is one of the most beautiful parts of China – mist shrouds jagged green mountains, roaring waterfalls feed winding rivers, and traditional farms and minority-cultured villages dot the land. While largely unknown outside of China, the Chinese themselves know of Guizhou’s beauty, making it one of the top provinces for domestic tourism in the country. The New York Times has also noted the province’s unique allure, calling it one of the top 52 places to visit in 2016.
